Reporting to the Vice President, Business Analytics, this new position for a Sr. Manager, Business Analytics will work from our corporate headquarters in Lake Mary, This role will provide leadership and direction to a team of four business analysts who perform cross-departmental analysis to incorporate more customer insight into our products, sales, services and operations. Integral to the role will be data gathering and reporting that aligns across all functions, from customer service and finance to operations and sales. This functional team will develop executive level dashboards and data visualization to provide insights into strategic initiatives and opportunities for Scholastic Book Fairs.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analytics
  • Create a culture of analytics whereby projects and initiatives are supported by data analytics and modeling
  • Use data analytics to improve product offerings to customers and consumers
  • Utilization of data to improve business performance (sales, expenses, and operating income)
  • Work with STS to analyze data, create data models, create data dictionary documentation, and recommend systems platforms that enable company-wide communications of performance on key initiatives
  • Build dashboards for Fleet, Sales, HR and Services
  • Responsible for company-wide cross-functional analytics
Data Engineering
  • Collaborate and partner with Scholastic Technical Services (STS) to develop best practices for the business analytics function and advocate for improvements in enterprise-wide tools
  • Interface with the Master Data Management (MDM) team to influence data structuring where necessary
  • Conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) as requested and appropriate
  • Collaborate with STS to ensure data cleanliness
  • Ensure that sources of data are in alignment across departments “One Version of the Truth”
  • Identify external data that will need integration into Scholastic Systems to enable efficient usage in analysis
Data Reporting
  • Reporting is intended to be managed by departmental Subject Matter Experts (SME’s)
  • Interface on a dotted line basis to departmental SME’s to ensure alignment of Data Reports
  • Ensure users of key reports are properly trained in report usage
  • Help to build departmental level self-sufficient capabilities as necessary
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor degree in quantitative field or related subject; MBA desired
  • Minimum of 5 years of management experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Business Analytics or related field
  • Experience performing analytics for a consulting firm is a plus
  • Previous background in retail business or high level Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) environment desired
  • Experience in usage of statistical analysis and data mining techniques and technology
  • Excellent technical knowledge in MS Office Suite (e.g. Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent technical knowledge of Tableau
  • Previous usage of mapping software a plus
  • Experience building analytical dashboards for usage by senior management is a plus
  • Knowledge of SQL is a strong plus
  • Knowledge and usage of SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) Report Manager is a strong plus
  • Experience with SAS is helpful
  • Experience with Oracle Database structures is helpful
  • Previous experience with Salesforce.com is a plus (as this will be a source of data in the future)
  • Previous utilization of enterprise-wide Business Intelligence software is a strong plus
