What You Will Do: 

  • Facilitates many of my team’s events including daily standup, reviews, demos, and retrospectives so that the team can focus on the work; facilitates events led by the PMs and engineers such as the product backlog refinement and sprint planning
  • Uses team performance data to estimate, track progress and keep the team on-track for its goals / targets to ultimately deliver whats planned in a predictable way 
  • Teaches the team on aspects of agile software delivery so that they can be self-sufficient, focus on delivery, and not rely on others outside the team
  • Facilitates the different levels of planning for the the teams in a quarter from high level quarterly planning, through ongoing iterative planning and estimation through to the sprint planning in detail 
  • Supports the Product Manager in creating & maintaining a roadmap of milestone deliverables based on team estimations
  • Removes any obstacles or impediments that may impact the team so that they can deliver value to the customer at the earliest point 
  • Able to guide teams on their journey to becoming high performing agile teams, understanding that different teams are at different stages of maturity development and tailoring the coaching based on that maturity (forming, storming, norming and ultimately performing)
  • Owns key artifacts and processes with the team and PMs like Definition of Ready and Definition of Done, helping to improve the quality into the Scrum Team and the quality out to the customer 
  • Facilitates efforts identified and prioritized from retrospectives to drive continuous improvement
  • Leads team through healthy conflict and debate so that team can safely share ideas in a trusted environment and move forward through timely decision making 
  • Promotes the Scrum Process and takes a pragmatic approach to Agile ways of working, taking practices from frameworks such as Scrum, LeSS, SAFe, Kanban, and XP where appropriate to connect the team to the wider org 
  • Healthy respect for the software engineering processes and practices in the team for producing quality software (code reviews, pair programming, test driven development) 
  • Helping establish empirical product planning for a complex and highly regulated environment; and facilitate stakeholder collaboration as requested or needed
  • Helping the Scrum Team understand the need for clear and concise Product Backlog items
  • Helping find techniques for effective Product Goal definition and Product Backlog management
  • Partner with the General Manager to drive organizational initiatives that improve your Department’s ability to deliver
  • Partner with Product Lead to support estimation, planning & tracking of strategic initiatives
  • Track the progress and quality of work being performed across the Department’s and proactively monitors progress against milestones and provides course correction if targets are at risk of being achieved 
  • Collectively work with other Scrum Masters across the organization to guide and mentor others in the role

What You Will Need: 

  • 5+ years as a Scrum Master for an Agile software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory 
  • Experience simultaneously running 2-3 scrum teams 
  • Experience as a scrum master in a highly regulated industry a plus 
  • CSM or PSM certification
  • Understanding and experience with broad technical skills across multiple domains and platforms 
  • Understanding of CI/CD practices and QA practices 
  • Deep knowledge of Jira and Confluence 
  • Demonstrated understanding of Scrum principles, practices, and theory
  • Experience tracking team metrics and improving upon them 
  • Demonstrated capability to drive continuous improvement initiatives 
  • General understanding of LeSS principals and how they differ from One Team Scrum 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to facilitate decisions making and conflict resolution
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact with colleagues from all disciplines
  • Ability to guide scrum teams to successfully deliver critical projects
